چکیده

The finite element technique has been accepted as a tool for modeling geotechnical complex processes. In this study, (FE) of various stages the soil-nailing process, i.e., construction and overburden pressure stages, is carried out considering different soil parameters, simulating with in-house developed laboratory models. process built in models idealized plain strain problem modeled PLAXIS software. consist Perspex sheet box containing sandy slope, facing, steel bars reinforcement plate foundation. stress–strain relationship sand represented by Hardening-Soil model. interface at nail described Coulomb friction behavior during stage under varying density, are investigated terms displacements slope stress conditions mass. mass all well presented FE compared model test data. sensitivity analysis models’ dimensions three-dimensional nailed-soil slope. It can be concluded that potential to simulate performance field working could provide guidance construction/maintenance soil-nailed cut slopes granular soils/weathered rocks.

Assessment of Soil Nailing Performance by Using Finite Element and Finite Difference Methods

The field performance of a geotechnical structures including its failure mechanism should be evaluated in detail before construction in order to minimize the possibility of potential failure. In this paper, the application of soil nailing system is documented in a detailed based on case study in the north of Tehran, Iran. The total excavation depth for a 15 storey residual building wall brought...

Numerical investigation on the pullout shear strength of soil-nail interface using finite element method

Soil nailing is a popular reinforcement method for stabilizing slopes, excavations, and retaining walls in many countries. The pullout capacity of the soil-nail interface is a critical parameter for the design and safety assessment of soil-nailed systems. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model is developed using the commercial program ABAQUS to simulate the pullout te...

Investigating Stabilized Excavations Using Soil Nailing Method in Urban Context

There are various methods for stabilizing excavations in urban areas which one of them is the nailing method. Designing a nailing system and analyzing the performance of excavations is done by various software applications. One of these computer programs is PAXIS software which run based on the finite element method (FEM). In the present study, a numerical analysis of the performance of t...

Enhancement of random finite element method in reliability analysis and risk assessment of soil slopes using Subset Simulation

Random finite element method (RFEM) provides a rigorous tool to incorporate spatial variability of soil properties into reliability analysis and risk assessment of slope stability. However, it suffers from a common criticism of requiring extensive computational efforts and a lack of efficiency, particularly at small probability levels (e.g., slope failure probability Pf<0.001). To address this ...

Finite element analysis of cone penetration in cohesionless soil

Displacement finite element analysis is performed for a cone-penetration test in cohesionless soils. By modelling finite strain in the soil and large scale sliding at the penetrometer–soil interface, a more realistic penetration process is simulated in which the penetrometer is assumed to be rigid and the soil is assumed to be an elastic-perfect-plastic continuum obeying the Mohr–Coulomb criter...
